Motorcycle Trip Copalis Beach, WA to Newport, OR 2020-05-14

A playlist of all of the videos from the ride from May 13 thru May 16.

We started our ride From Copalis Beach to Newport Oregon. It was mapped out from Copalis to Newport, OR. First, of course, we had to find coffee and breakfast. Linda's Bakery And Café in Ocean Shores provided excellent coffee and baked morning nourishment.

We contined south on Highway 101 around the bays. This day started out cloudy and as we headed south started raining a little, less than the day before. While riding along the highway with the trees all around us and on the road a riding video of the yellow Scotch Broom, the ocean to the right and twisties. I thought that this is how it would look like to ride along the coast of Scotland when the ancient Caledonian Forest is restored.

Introduced in the 1800's the Scotch broom, Cytisus scoparius, while pretty, is considered a noxious weed in Washington State.

We rode to the bridge that crossed into Oregon State, Astoria Bridge. We could see rain on the horizon and it was time for a break. Pictures and put on some rain gear:

And the obligatory pictures of our rides:

Note: Oregon State and New Jersey are the only two states in the US that require the gas station attendant to pump your gas. 'Safety reasons' is why I have been told, read the article for an alternate explanation. Fortunately for Motorcycles because we are 'particular' about our bikes in Oregon they are completely fine with us pumping our own gasoline. From all indications in New Jersey they will swipe your card and hand you the pump. The pumps in Oregon do, however, work a little differently. There is an extra step of entering how much you want to pump or just hitting the enter button.

We crossed into Oregon across Astoria Bridge and Youngs Bay Bridge in this video. Still off and on rain which would persist for the rest of the ride.

We passed the 'Haystack' rock off Cannon Beach, nice coastal town that is laid back. The beach is VERY gradual and you can walk out to the rock at low tide. The Pacific Ocean is not (IMHO) a realy friendly place to swim. Just a little cold for my tastes, but BEAUTIFUL to look at. This shot on a beach south of Haystack Rock, on the far right in the picture:

Down near Tillamook (well known for Dairy products) there is a 'beef jerky outlet store' with Gluten Free Jerky. Stopped there to buy some product and continued down the road.

We continued south into Oregon, there are REALLY good twisties south of Tillamook but they were in clouds / rain and looked pretty much like the video at the top of this page except without the Scotch Broom and more rain. Most of the day was rain or clouds, we could see that south of us it was TRYING to clear up near Winema Wayfinding Point

Just north of Neotsu, near the end of this video, the sun decided to shine and stay with us for a while.

We finished riding on to Newport Oregon, found our BnB, got dinner and had a chorus singing to us while we ate and looked out over the harbor:
